The Whatcom Marine Resources Committee (MRC) is a voluntary citizens advisory group to Whatcom County Government. The MRC works to protect and restore marine resources in the Puget Sound area through scientific monitoring, nearshore restoration projects, and community education.

Reporting 'white water'

Pacific Herring spawning season is in full swing!  So far this year, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have seen herring spawn spawn at Semiahmoo Bay, Skagit Bay, Fidalgo Bay, Port Susan and Port Gamble.  Check out this info card on identifying and reporting ‘white water’ (a potential indication of herring spawning) and help the WDFW survey team.

Northwest Straits Foundation Spring Celebration!

Save the Date. Join the Northwest Straits Foundation's annual Spring Celebration on Saturday, May 17, at Larrabee State Park. It will be free and open to the public. Bring your friends and family for a beach walk to learn about marine life, help with vegetation along a coastal trail, and enjoy our community picnic and games.
